North Hamgyong parents receive death notices of sons killed in the military… From 8th Corps and 91st Defense Command

Parents in North Korea’s North Hamgyong Province are being notified of the deaths of their sons in the military, according to reports.
A report in NK Times, quoting a knowledgeable source in the province, says an increasing number of residents have been receiving killed-in-action notifications in Chongjin and other cities and counties across the northeastern province.
The notifications are individually delivered through local Party committees, the report says.
From December to early this month, five families have received them. Two are from Chongjin, one from Hoeryong, and one each from Orang and Kyongsong counties.
Four of the dead are from the 8th Army Corps and the 91st Capital Defense Command, and one from the Storm (11) Corps, the source said.
It is known that residents in other areas, particularly in Yanggang Province, have been receiving such notifications since October.
Although not confirmed, the assumption is that the deaths are of soldiers deployed to Russia.
“Recently, more and more families are receiving death notifications for their sons who went to the military,” the source said. “Some fainted on hearing the news.”
“More broadly, people are feeling anxious after hearing seeing others grieving. There is no way to find out where their sons are, what they are doing, or whether they are alive or dead,” the source said.
Rumors are circulating that soldiers sent to the war have been dying in large numbers, he said.
The development comes after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced last month that more than 3,000 North Korean soldiers had been killed or wounded, and the White House reported in a briefing on December 27 that North Korea had sustained over 1,000 casualties in the previous week.
