Seoul, South Korea – Over 300 representatives and members from leading Korean civic groups and North Korean defector organizations will gather in Seoul on August 17 to hold a rally condemning the fraudulent election practices of the Maduro regime in Venezuela.

Venezuela’s dictatorship is not only brutal but also plagued by crime, corruption, and widespread hunger, which have forced 8 million people to flee the country and scatter across the globe. The regime operates the largest torture center in the West and has imprisoned over 2,000 political prisoners in the last three weeks alone. Despite the opposition’s victory in the July 28 election, Maduro has falsely declared himself the winner through fraudulent vote counting.

Recently, he even banned the use of communication apps like TikTok, WhatsApp, and X (formerly Twitter) in Venezuela. His fear of people communicating with one another closely mirrors the totalitarianism of Kim Jong-un’s regime in North Korea.

We, Korean civic groups, strongly condemn these actions and want to show Korea’s support and solidarity with Venezuela’s opposition and democratic forces. We will announce a formal statement and distribute it on-site tomorrow, local time.

We invite the media and the public to join us.
